This is an attempt to visualise the process of succesful goal achievement. When the three basic needs of people are fulfilled they experience a sense of autonomy to make their own decisions, they have a sense of relatedness with their environment and they have a feeling of being competent. Under these circumstances people feel intrinsically motivated to achieve goals or they see a value in achieving a goal (autonomous extrinsic motivation). They get ideas regarding which goals they would like to achieve. This is a good starting point to actually achieving these goals, however knowing what you want is not enough. People also need to know how to go about achieving their goals, the process with which they are going to achieve what they want. By analysing previous successes and positive exceptions to problems they get an idea regarding what works for them in the specific context they find themselves in. This results in positive behaviour representations: vivid descriptions of their own succesful behaviour in the past, the present and the future. This leads to actions and experimenting, which then leads to succesful goal achievement. Achieving your goals is stimulating. It gives information regarding what works for you to succeed and it helps to define what else you want to achieve.
